    Im 19 yr old girl and my PRs are:
    5k= 20:02 (10th grade HS)
    800= 2.32 (just ran that yesterday :p)
    Mile= somewhere around a 5:30
    1500= 5:08

    I got injured my freshman year of college with a stress fracture which put me out after my first, and horrible xc season. I couldnt run indoor track, and than I wasnt in shape for outdoor so I just had to train for xc. Than, when i started my sophmore year of xc, I sucked SO bad… I was running 24:00 5Ks which is HORRIBLE. I lowered my time to a 21:30 but still wasnt able to hit anywhere close to where I used to be. I have been working my butt off and its finally starting to pay off. I ran a 800 time trial yesterday in 2:32. I am hoping to run a 5K this weekend in just under 20:00. Its amazing what an injury can do to you, and how it can completely destroy any training you have ever done to be good in the past. It taught me that things dont come easily and if you work really hard for something and you want it bad enough, you WILL succeed. I never thought i would be able to run the times i used to. I am not only running the times I could only wish for just last year, but I am running them way faster than I even thought I could. Some people are naturally talented. I am not one of those people… and I have worked SO hard to be where Im at right now.

    Well, for comparison sake, in high school PR’s (17 yrs. old) were:

    800: 2:00
    1500: 4:17
    Mile: 4:40
    3k: 9:17 (indoors)
    2 Mile: 9:46
    5K: 16:10 track - 16:17 XC
    5 Mile (Road): 26:58

    And the random event for a distance runner…
    High Jump - 6′4″

    I was bitten by the injury bug really hard in High School. Four Sprains of my ankle, and missed out on parts of 3 seasons. I rehabed the right ankle with Physical Therapy for two months, as I had pulled a tendon away from the bone (=not fun) not fully, but significantly nonetheless.

    Subsequent sprains, which weren’t as bad, I rehabed on a bike as the impact was what really hurt. It helped keep up the cardio for the interim.

    My training was always modified a bit from the teammates because I have execise induced asthma, but still put in 70/wk by the summer leading into senior year, and probably 50-60 for most of the season with two workouts a week until tapering at the end with more speed work. Keeping a log was very advantageous.

    Good luck with your training!

    My Pr’s

    800: 1:52
    1500: 3:48
    Mile: 4:12
    3k: 8:08
    2 Mile: 8:46
    5K: 13:48 track - 14:30 XC
    5 Mile (Road): 23:07

    If you get injured, take time off until you get better…DO NOT try to run through it…you won’t get better! Ive never been injured because if have a lower milage training plan. That is the key if you are prone to injury, too.
